For past 29 years, the Annual World's Ugliest Dog contest was held during the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. The owners of all kinds of healthy dogs line up here to present their dogs to win the title.

And believe me when I say that these dogs are healthy and not sick. To qualify for the contest, all these dogs must provide a veterinarian’s certificate proving that they are healthy before arriving to the contest. The World’s Ugliest Dog® Contest also follows up with a vet check on-site just prior to the contest.


A good number of the contestant dogs have been rescued from shelters and the contest has done much to raise awareness for adoption of dogs, and that no matter their physical detraction's, these animals are loving companions. And the dogs certainly seem to enjoy the adoration of the fans.

The contest committee quotes "The annual World’s Ugliest Dog® Contest is not about making fun of “ugly” dogs, but having fun with some wonderful characters and showing the world that these dogs are really beautiful!"

Peanut is believed to be a 2-year-old Chihuahua and shih-tzu mix

The World's Ugliest Dog 2015 - Quasi Modo

Quasi Modo is a 10-year old Pitbull and Dutch shepherd mix who is believed to be born with spinal defects, giving her an appearance of a hunchback

The World's Ugliest Dog 2016 - Sweepee Rambo

Sweepee Rambo is a 17 year old,bony Chinese crested Chihuahua who is blind in both eyes.
