Facebook, Twitter, Google and US President Barack Obama have all reached out to support the 14-year-old Muslim boy, Ahmed Mohamed in US.


Ahmed Mohamed, an engineering enthusiast, brought this clock to his high school in Irving, Texas, on Monday to show one of his teachers which she mistook to be a bomb.

Ahmed was handcuffed and reportedly interrogated by five police officers. He claims to have repeatedly told teachers at MacArthur High in Texas and the police that the device was in fact a clock. It was taken away as evidence. He has since been suspended from the school. However, police ruled he will not face any charges.


Since his story went viral, now the school and police have been accused of stereotyping Ahmed because he’s Muslim. After the news breakout, Ahmed has received an absolute torrent of support online, especially from some pretty big names including President Barack Obama, who tweeted him after hearing about his situation, inviting him to visit the White House.


Even Mark Zuckerberg weighed in on the support, praising Ahmed for his creativity and ambition, inviting him to come and see him at Facebook HQ.


Ahmed said when he first showed the clock to his teacher he said: ‘That’s really nice, I would advise you not to show any other teachers.’ When the clock’s alarm went off in another lesson, the teacher asked Ahmed to bring the device to her, at which point she allegedly said it ‘looks like a bomb’.


As Ahmed was frogmarched into the principal’s office one of the officers waiting for him allegedly said: ‘Yup. That’s who I thought it was.’

Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, Ahmed’s father, believes the suspicion surrounding his son is the result of Islamaphobia. ‘He just wants to invent good things for mankind, but because his name is Mohamed and because of September 11, I think my son got mistreated,’ Mr Mohamed told Dallas News.
